Day 1: we are live

Day 1: we are live

As of today the chicken cam is public. For now just for watching, during opening hours. From here on we count the days.

After a good two months of building, testing and re-plugging, the site is open to everyone from today. Whoever opens peckandclick.com sees the run live. No feed button for visitors yet, but everything that belongs to watching.

What there is today

  • The live picture during opening hours. At night the hens sleep in the coop, and the page shows a night card with the time it continues in the morning.
  • A short text about the cam and the feeder.
  • Imprint, privacy policy and the cookie settings. The site works without advertising cookies.

Why only watching for now

The feeder is still the servo prototype. It works, but it is not built for continuous outdoor use. Before strangers trigger it a hundred times a day, a proper feeder should go into the run. Until then the site runs as a pure cam, and I watch how stable camera, stream and server hold up over weeks.

A few numbers for the start: the site has been on the server since mid-July, the camera picture has been coming through since 16 July. Twice a day there is a short power switching moment in the run, when the stream is gone for two or three minutes. The opening hours are set so that this falls outside them.

From today we count the days. Day 1.
